Alpina was never the result of a marketing strategy. The brand was born in the 1960s from a genuine technical belief that a BMW could be made even better. Not only faster, but more refined. More power, of course. But also more smoothness, more balance and more depth in the way a car drives. What started with engine optimization evolved into an officially recognized manufacturer with its own chassis numbering from 1983 onwards. Production was always intentionally limited, around 1,700 cars per year in Buchloe. No mass production, but careful assembly in small numbers. And you can feel that from behind the wheel.
This 2021 example is finished in the rarely chosen and highly elegant combination of Individual Alpina Grün II with a brown Individual leather interior, a specification that perfectly reflects the character of the car. With 97,000 km on the clock and consistently well maintained, this car presents in very well-kept condition. These cars usually end up with enthusiasts, and it shows. In the condition of the interior, the paintwork and the overall appearance. Everything feels right. The options list is well thought out and makes this car truly complete. BMW Laserlight, Head-Up Display, Harman Kardon sound system, heated seats front and rear, heated steering wheel, electrically adjustable seats with memory, Comfort Access, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, M aerodynamics package, Adaptive M suspension, M Sport differential and an electric tow bar. It is the kind of configuration where nothing feels missing. Everything is there to make daily driving comfortable and effortless, without sacrificing performance. Exactly how an Alpina should be. And then the heart of the car: the 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo engine. 462 hp and an impressive 700 Nm of torque. That torque is exceptional in this segment and gives the B3 a level of flexibility and pulling power you simply do not find in a standard BMW. The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, specifically calibrated by Alpina, works seamlessly with the engine. Smooth in daily driving, sharp when you ask for it. The all-wheel-drive system ensures all that power is put to the road efficiently and under full control. What truly makes this car special is its dual character. In Comfort mode, it drives relaxed, quiet and refined, almost like a regular 3 Series. Switch to Sport Plus and it transforms into a true autobahn machine, capable of maintaining high speeds with ease and even outrunning an M3 Touring. That is the strength of Alpina. Comfort when you want it, performance when you demand it. Two worlds in one car, without compromise. But perhaps that is not even the most important part. The real question is this: what car can you buy today that you can use every single day, that is comfortable and practical, fiscally interesting, and still a true enthusiast’s car? This is that car.
