1952 AUTO ITALIA (Lic. Cisitalia) Chassis #003
Discovered in Argentina in the mid-1990s, this exceptionally rare 1952 Auto Italia (Lic. Cisitalia) chassis #03 retains its original Crosley CoBra (Copper Brazed) inline 4-cylinder engine, number C464946, displacing 724 cc. This lightweight, overhead-camshaft unit constructed from copper-brazed sheet steel and renowned for its advanced design was highly prized by small sports car manufacturers for its lively performance and low weight. The engine is topped with a Braje aluminum valve cover, a period speed equipment component from California, reflecting the racing spirit and tuning culture of the 1950s.
Following its discovery, the car underwent a careful restoration in the early 2000s and was later exhibited at a concours in Buenos Aires in 2008.
In 2012, it was purchased and imported to Germany by noted Alfa Romeo prewar specialist Alfred Bauer of Scuderia Renania. That same year, the car proudly participated in the Gran Premio Nuvolari, aYesting to both its mechanical integrity and historical importance.
Most recently imported to Belgium, the vehicle has just benefited from an extensive checkup, including a major service and a new clutch.
According to the comprehensive expertise report by Dipl.-Ing. Klaus Kukuk, publicly appointed and sworn expert for historic vehicles (Overath, Germany), the car is in restored condition, graded between 2 and 3 overall, with the frame and paint rated 2 (good). Renato Ciofi’s AutotItalia workshop, active in Argentina from the late 1940s, produced only a handful of lightweight barcheYas inspired by Italian postwar racing design. Very few original examples have survived, making this car an important piece of the Cisitalia and Ciofi legacy.

Découverte en Argentine au milieu des années 1990, cette rare Auto Italia (sous licence Cisitalia) de 1952, châssis n03, conserve son moteur Crosley CoBra (Copper Brazed) quatre cylindres en ligne d’origine, portant le numéro C464946 et d’une cylindrée de 724 cm. Ce moteur léger à arbre à cames en tête, fabriqué en tôle d’acier brasée au cuivre et réputé pour sa conception novatrice, était très recherché par les petits constructeurs de voitures de sport pour sa vivacité et sa légèreté. Le moteur est surmonté d’un cache-culbuteurs en aluminium Braje, un élément de préparation d’époque provenant de Californie, témoignant de l’esprit sportif et de la culture du tuning des années 1950.
Après sa redécouverte, la voiture a fait l’objet d’une restauration minutieuse au début des années 2000, avant d’être présentée à un concours d’élégance à Buenos Aires en 2008.
En 2012, elle fut achetée et importée en Allemagne par Alfred Bauer, spécialiste reconnu des Alfa Romeo d’avant-guerre et fondateur de la Scuderia Renania. La même année, elle participa fièrement au Gran Premio Nuvolari, témoignant de son excellente santé mécanique et de son importance historique.
Plus récemment importée en Belgique, la voiture a bénéficié d’un contrôle complet, comprenant une grande révision et le remplacement de l’embrayage.

Klaus Kukuk, expert public assermenté pour véhicules historiques (Overath, Allemagne), la voiture se présente dans un état restauré, notée entre 2 et 3 au global, avec le châssis et la peinture évalués 2 (bon). Le rapport souligne la présence de son moteur d’origine, de ses éléments mécaniques d’époque, et d’une restauration fidèle dans les moindres détails.

L’atelier AutotItalia de Renato Ciofi, actif en Argentine à partir de la fin des années 1940s, produisit seulement quelques barchettas légères inspirées du design italien d’après-guerre. Très peu d’exemplaires originaux ont survécu, faisant de cette automobile une pièce majeure du patrimoine Cisitalia et Ciofi.

Deze lichte motor met bovenliggende nokkenas vervaardigd uit koper-gesoldeerd plaatstaal en bekend om zijn vooruitstrevende ontwerp was bijzonder geliefd bij kleine sportwagenconstructeurs vanwege zijn levendige prestaties en lage gewicht. De motor is voorzien van een aluminium Braje kleppendeksel, een periodiek speed equipment-onderdeel uit Californië dat de racesfeer en tuningcultuur van de jaren 1950 weerspiegelt.
Na de ontdekking werd de wagen begin jaren 2000 zorgvuldig gerestaureerd en later tentoongesteld op een concours in Buenos Aires in 2008.
