With the introduction of the Giulietta, Alfa Romeo set the template for what would become one of its defining traits: small cars with big performance. The Spider Veloce took that idea to heart. It was not just about style, though it had plenty, but about delivering real driver engagement through clever engineering and lightweight construction. Even today, the Giulietta Veloce remains one of the most rewarding vintage sports cars to drive.
This particular car is a genuine Veloce model, first registered in January 1958 and one of just 2,796 factory-built examples. Unlike the more common Spider Normale, the Veloce was developed as a higher-performance variant with a number of key upgrades that significantly enhance the driving experience. The differences go well beyond the badge. Under the bonnet, the Veloce received a more powerful version of the 1.3-litre twin-cam engine, featuring high-compression pistons, more aggressive camshafts, a special cylinder head and a pair of twin Weber DCOE carburetors.
The result is a much livelier, rev-happier engine with sharper throttle response and a sportier exhaust note. These mechanical upgrades, combined with its limited production numbers and motorsport pedigree, are exactly why original Veloces are so sought after today.
This example shows only 64,324 kilometres and is in top mechanical condition. Recently prepared for regular use, it starts easily, pulls cleanly and handles with the sharpness and confidence you expect from a properly sorted Veloce.
